Welcome to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Newark Field Division. The Newark Field Division is responsible for ATF criminal enforcement and industry regulatory activities in the State of New Jersey. Our dedicated work force is comprised of special agents, investigators, auditors, technicians, and support staff.
ATF is committed to reducing violent crime in our neighborhoods. ATF‘s Newark Field Division special agents combat firearms violence by focusing their investigative efforts on firearm traffickers, violent street gangs, armed offenders, and career criminals We have joint firearms task forces that include partnerships with other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies throughout New Jersey to accomplish this mission.
ATF Newark is also very proactive in investigating violations of federal law pertaining to arson and explosives. Our special agents work closely with local and state fire investigators and police bomb squads in conducting investigations throughout the State of New Jersey. We have our own special agent canine handler and bomb dog Mojo who can respond to any need of assistance for suspicious packages or explosives related crime.
ATF also has the duty of regulating the firearms and explosives industries. Our industry operations investigators work to ensure that all firearms and explosives are stored, handled, and sold in a safe manner according to law.

Special Agent in Charge
Newark Field Division
George P. Belsky, Jr was selected as the Special Agent in Charge (SAC), (Senior Executive Service) of the Newark Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in July 2014. He is responsible for ATF operations throughout New Jersey.
ATF is a key law enforcement agency within the US Department of Justice that protects our communities from violent criminals, criminal organizations, the illegal use and trafficking of firearms, the illegal use and storage of explosives, acts of arson and bombings, acts of terrorism, and the illegal diversion of alcohol and tobacco products. The men and women of ATF perform the dual responsibilities of enforcing Federal criminal laws and regulating the firearms and explosives industries to protect against crime, violence and other threats to public safety.
Most recently SAC Belsky was the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of the Newark Field Division and was responsible for criminal enforcement and intelligence field operations in New Jersey. SAC Belsky served as the Resident Agent in Charge of the Savannah Field Office and at the ATF National Academy as a program manager and instructor. He began his ATF career in 1999 as a Special Agent in the Miami Field Division.
SAC Belsky graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point NY in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in history. He served as a US Army infantry officer, and began his law enforcement career in 1989 as a police officer. He has received numerous awards, both internally and externally, including the ATF Medal of Valor and the ATF Foreign Service Award. In 2012 he was selected as the ATF Supervisor of the Year. He is married and has two children.
