Welcome to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Newark Field Division. The Newark Field Division is responsible for ATF criminal enforcement and industry regulatory activities in the State of New Jersey. Our dedicated work force is comprised of special agents, investigators, auditors, technicians, and support staff.
ATF is committed to reducing violent crime in our neighborhoods. ATF‘s Newark Field Division special agents combat firearms violence by focusing their investigative efforts on firearm traffickers, violent street gangs, armed offenders, and career criminals We have joint firearms task forces that include partnerships with other local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies throughout New Jersey to accomplish this mission.
ATF Newark is also very proactive in investigating violations of federal law pertaining to arson and explosives. Our special agents work closely with local and state fire investigators and police bomb squads in conducting investigations throughout the State of New Jersey. We have our own special agent canine handler and bomb dog Mojo who can respond to any need of assistance for suspicious packages or explosives related crime.
ATF also has the duty of regulating the firearms and explosives industries. Our industry operations investigators work to ensure that all firearms and explosives are stored, handled, and sold in a safe manner according to law.

Newark Field Division
George P. Belsky, Jr., is the Special Agent in Charge of the Newark Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Belsky, who has been in this position since July 2014, directs a staff of over 60 criminal investigators, task force officers and support personnel. The Newark Field Division is responsible for enforcing Federal laws pertaining to firearms, explosives, and arson throughout the State of New Jersey. From November 2012 until his appointment as the Special Agent in Charge, he served as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge for the Newark Field Division. Belsky began his career with ATF in 1999 and previously served as a special agent in the Miami Field Division, a Training Manager and Program Manager at the ATF National Academy, and as the Resident Agent in Charge of the Savannah Field Office. In 2012, Belsky received the ATF Outstanding Supervisory Employee of the Year award. He has also been awarded the ATF Medal of Valor and the ATF Foreign Service Medal. Prior to joining ATF, Belsky served as a United States Postal Inspector, as a police officer with the Clearwater (FL) and the Decatur (GA) police departments, and as a United States Army infantry officer. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy, West Point.
