ATF’s Research and Development Division is located at ATF’s National Center for Explosives Training and Research at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. The R&D Division’s research involves the characterization of explosives effects, behavior, and devices using all types of explosives (military, commercial, and homemade or improvised). Additionally, ATF is researching emerging technologies for the identification and detection of explosives.
Because of its research efforts, ATF is routinely called upon to help develop test protocols and experiments and make presentations on its findings. ATF maintains a working relationship with partners in the explosives industry, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Homeland Security. Requests for additional information on ATF’s research and development efforts can be directed to NCETR-Mailbox@atf.gov.
