Circumstances of Death

Prohibition Agent George Wentworth and another agent made an undercover purchase of a large load of illicit liquor from Burrill Morris in Berkeley, CA.  After the purchase was completed, they arrested Morris.  While being driven to jail, Morris drew a hidden gun and ordered Agent Wentworth to stop the vehicle.  When he refused, Morris shot him in the head.  Although seriously wounded, Agent Wentworth returned fire killing Morris.  Agent Wentworth was rushed to the Berkeley General Hospital, and died the following day.

Agent Wentworth joined the Prohibition Unit on August 3, 1926, with an annual salary of $1,860.

Agent Wentworth was born in Arcata, CA.  He was survived by his wife, Jean.
