Circumstances of Death

Prohibition Agent James McGuiness was killed by unknown assailants.  His body was found with bullet wounds on both sides of his head on the shores of Newark Bay, NJ.  No suspects were ever identified.

Background

Agent McGuiness joined the Prohibition Unit on January 21, 1920, placing him among the first group of agents hired to enforce the National Prohibition Act.  His annual salary of $2,750 was considerably higher than other new agents, but his Government service had begun in 1910.

Agent McGuiness was born in Jersey City, NJ.  He was survived by his wife.
