CIRCUMSTANCES OF DEATH

Prohibition Agent Oscar Hanson and Deputy U. S. Marshal Edward F. Flannary were riding in a Government vehicle when they were struck by a train at a railroad crossing in Humboldt, SD.  Both men were killed instantly. Weather (snow and sleet) was considered a major factor leading up to this accident.

BACKGROUND

Agent Hanson joined the Prohibition Unit on 11/2/1925, with an annual salary of $1,860.  He was assigned to the Watertown, SD office.

PERSONAL

Agent Hanson was born in La Crosse, WI.  He was survived by his wife and their eight children.
