Welcome to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Louisville Field Division. Our Division is responsible for ATF criminal enforcement and industry regulatory activities in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, State of West Virginia and Southern Indiana. Our dedicated work force is comprised of special agents, investigators, auditors, technicians and support staff.

We are committed to reducing violent crime in our neighborhoods. The special agents of the Louisville Division combat firearms violence by focusing investigative efforts on armed violent offenders, career criminals, gun traffickers, gangs and other criminal organizations. We also work in partnership with other local, state and Federal law enforcement agencies throughout Kentucky, West Virginia and Southern Indiana to accomplish our mission.

Explosives and arson enforcement are an integral part of ATFs overall violent crime reduction strategy. Special Agents combat arson and explosives-related crimes by conducting investigations and by working in partnership with local fire departments, state fire investigators and police bomb squads.

ATF also has the duty of regulating the firearms and explosives industry. The Industry Operations Investigators work to ensure that all firearms and explosives are stored, handled and sold in a safe manner according to law.

Southern California Cocaine Suppliers Convicted in Largest Jefferson County Federal Drug Trafficking Operation

December 13, 2012

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A federal jury in Louisville, Kentucky found Abel Flores and Ramon Flores guilty of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, announced David J. Hale, United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky. According to evidence presented during the five day trial before U.S. District Judge Charles R. Simpson, III, the defendants sold thousands of kilos of cocaine. The drugs were brought into the United States through a Mexican drug cartel to trafficking organizer Michael McCarthy, for distribution in the Louisville area. At trial, the United States proved that Abel Flores, age 41, of Los Angeles, California and Ramon Flores, age 34, of Los Angeles, California, supplied the cocaine through a cross-country distribution network originating in Southern California. The cocaine was driven from Southern California to Louisville where it was received by McCarthy and distributed to other members of the organization in Louisville. More »
