ATF Washington Field Division Releases Top Investigations of 2008 (Western Judicial District of Virginia Cases)

WASHINGTON — Edgar A. Domenech, Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Washington Field Division (WFD), released the list of top investigations undertaken during 2008. The Washington Field Division covers Washington D.C., the Commonwealth of Virginia, and seven counties in the panhandle of West Virginia.

Domenech said, The investigations below highlight the work that the men and women of ATF do each and every day with our law enforcement partners in our fight against violent crime. Our goal is to take the worst of the worst criminals off the streets so our citizens and their children can feel safe in their neighborhoods.

The investigations listed below were prosecuted out of the U.S. Attorney’s office in the Western District of Virginia.

Eight Members of Drug Ring Indicted — 02/13/08

United States Attorney John L. Brownlee announced that Reynold George Samuels Jr., age 39, of Charlottesville and Waynesboro, Virginia, and seven other defendants were indicted on charges related to an alleged continuing criminal enterprise, headed by Samuels Jr., that distributed illegal drugs and pirated DVDs throughout the Western District of Virginia. Pulaski Man Pleads Guilty To Drug and Gun Charges, Faces Mandatory 25 Years in Prison — 02/20/08

Darryl Antonio Taylor, a/k/a “Pretty Tony,” 23, of Pulaski, Virginia, pleaded guilty in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia to one charge of conspiracy to distribute fifty grams or more of crack cocaine and one charge of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense. Members of Meth Conspiracy Plead Guilty; Agree To Forfeiture of $53,037 in Drug Money — 02/29/08

Lonnie Edward Malone, age 57, of Abingdon, Virginia, pled guilty in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Abingdon, to charges related to a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in Washington County, Virginia. New York Man Charged With the Murder of Katherine Danielle Howard — 03/13/08

United States Attorney John L. Brownlee, Orange County Commonwealth Attorney Diana H. Wheeler, Orange County Sheriff Mark Amos, and ATF RAC Bill Dunham announced that a federal Grand Jury has charged Gary Christopher Johnson, age 18, of St. Albans, New York, with the murder of Katherine Danielle (“Dani”) Howard. Law Enforcement Breaks Up Major Crack Cocaine Distribution Conspiracy; Grand Jury Charges 51 People from Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina — 04/30/08

United States Attorney John L. Brownlee announced that local, state and federal law enforcement have taken down a major crack cocaine distribution ring. The Complaint charged 51 individuals with being involved in a conspiracy to distribute and possession with the intent to distribute cocaine powder and crack cocaine. Fugitive Apprehended In Richlands Pleads Guilty To Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon — 05/06/08

United States Attorney John L. Brownlee announced that Tenner Rex Hickman, age 52, of Richlands, Virginia, pled guilty in United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Abingdon, to one count of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Three Members of Methamphetamine Distribution Conspiracy Sentenced To Lengthy Prison Terms — 05/19/08

Acting United States Attorney Julia C. Dudley announced that Juan Manuel Cornejo Garcia, age 24, Brenda Sue Lucas, age 43, and Samuel Lee Simmons, age 28, have been sentenced in United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Charlottesville for participating in a conspiracy to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine throughout the Western District of Virginia. Upper Marlboro, Maryland Man Convicted of Drug and Gun Charges Following Jury Trial — 06/06/08

Dudley announced that Brad Everett Ford, age 29, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was found guilty by a Federal Jury of knowingly and intentionally possessing with the intent to distribute a mixture or substance containing a detectable amount of marijuana, and one count of possessing two firearms in furtherance of a drug crime. Six Individuals from Dickenson and Russell Counties Indicted On Drug Distribution and Firearms Charges — 06/20/08

Acting United States Attorney Julia C. Dudley announced that Danny D. Laforce, age 55, of Dante, Virginia, Kristy R. Rasnick, age 26, of Dante, Virginia, Kimberly R. Rasnick, age 27, of Birchleaf, Virginia, Joshua M. Neece, age 25, of Dante, Virginia and Gary L. Seckman, age 63, of Nora, Virginia were indicted by a Federal Grand Jury sitting in Abingdon on drug distribution and gun charges. Roanoke Man Sentenced To Life plus Five Years for Cocaine Distribution — 07/09/08

Former Virginia Tech Student Sentenced To 60 Months for Arson — 07/14/08

Dudley announced that Robert Andrew Lawson, age 23, of Blacksburg, Virginia, has been sentenced in United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Roanoke to serve 60 months of Federal incarceration and a period of supervised release of three years thereafter for charges related to an arson at the Blacksburg area apartment complex in which the defendant lived. Dudley announced that Spencer Jay Stoneberger, age 34, of Luray, Kristin Rae Campbell, age 35, of Stanley, Jeffrey Allen Kline, age 29, of Luray, Andrew Wayne Knight, age 39, of Luray and David Anthony Hilliards, age 21, of Luray, were sentenced in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Harrisonburg for their roles in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Final Member of Crack Cocaine Distribution Ring Sentenced To 105 Months — 08/27/08

In all, conspiracy members will serve 659 months in Federal PrisonActing United States Attorney Julia C. Jury Convicts Two, Twenty-One Plead Guilty In Crack Cocaine Distribution Case — 10/14/08

Men get prison terms for gun store robbery — 11/18/09

Timothy Jackson Jr. of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Ronald Ganeous of Bladensburg, Md., were sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for the Nov. 13, 2007, robbery of Southern Gun. Both had entered guilty pleas to Hobbs Act robbery and possessing a firearm in relation to a violent crime.Investigators have recovered 18 of the 74 guns taken in the heist, but they say finding the rest could take years. It’s not uncommon with that quantity of guns stolen that you’ll keep getting guns turned up for the next five or 10 years, said Bart McEntire, resident agent in charge with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Man Convicted Of Murder of Louisa Woman in Charlottesville Gary Christopher Johnson Faces Possible Life Sentence — 12/13/08

United States Attorney Julia C. Dudley announced that Gary Christopher Johnson, age 19, of St. Albans, New York was convicted by a Federal jury sitting in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Charlottesville for the first degree murder of Katherine Danielle Howard and other related federal offenses.The defendant was charged in a four-count Indictment with possession of a stolen firearm, conspiracy to possess cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, and use of a Firearm during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime, resulting in the first degree murder of Katherine Danielle Howard. All Seven Defendants in Crack Cocaine Distribution Ring Plead Guilty — 12/18/08

Acting United States Attorney Julia C. Dudley announced that the following members of an organization that distributed crack cocaine in Wythe County, Virginia, pled guilty to conspiring to distribute 50 grams or more of crack cocaine:

  • David Tony Moore, age 43, of Detroit, Michigan
  • Andrae Rodregas Davis, age 28, of Wytheville, Virginia
  • Reginald Scott Anderson, age 38, of Wytheville, Virginia
  • Vincent Pernell Kyle, age 39, of Wytheville, Virginia
  • Landon Demitrus Taylor, age 28, of Wytheville, Virginia
  • Marcus Lamonte Davis, age 36, of Wytheville, Virginia and
  • Christopher Lance Taylor, age 26, of Wytheville, Virginia.
