Owner of Ocala Rental Property Indicted on Federal Charge of Soliciting Arson
Ocala, FL — United States Attorney A. Brian Albritton, along with Virginia O'Brien, Special Agent in Charge of the Tampa Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), announced today that a federal grand jury in Tampa has returned an indictment charging Susan E. Washington (age 51 of Canton, Georgia) with soliciting another person to commit arson. If convicted, Washington faces a maximum term of ten years in federal prison.
The indictment and a previously filed complaint and affidavit allege that Washington solicited another person to burn down her insured rental property located at 365 N.E. 70th Terrace, in Ocala.
This case was investigated by ATF, the State of Florida Fire Marshal’s Office, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ocala Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Samuel Armstrong.
An indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed a violation of the federal criminal laws, and every defendant is presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty.
