Norway Man Sentenced on Federal Firearms Charge
Portland, Maine: United States Attorney Paula D. Silsby announced yesterday that a federal judge sitting in Portland sentenced Linwood Lord, age 43 of Norway, to serve 12 months and one day in federal prison for illegal possession of firearms.
On February 20, 2008, the Norway Police Department seized two shotguns and a .45 caliber pistol from Lord’s residence in that town. Lord, a registered sex offender, is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a previous conviction for the felony crime of unlawful sexual contact, in the Oxford County Superior Court in 1988.
This case is part of Maine’s Project Safe Neighborhoods initiative, which is designed to reduce gun violence and illegal gun possession. United States Attorney Silsby said that the investigations leading to these indictments were conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Central Maine Violent Crime Task Force, and Norway Police Department.
