8 More Defendants Sentenced for Distributing Methamphetamine in Duluth

This week eight people in a 28-defendant methamphetamine distribution case were sentenced in federal court. Collectively, the defendants in this case were responsible for distributing between 30 and 50 pounds of methamphetamine in the Duluth area from 2005 to 2008.

Earlier today in St. Paul, U.S. District Court Judge Donovan Frank sentenced Pedro Jesus Cruz, age 35, of St. Paul, and Joshua Edward Cameron, age 32, of Maple Grove, to 60 months in prison; Tracey Lyn Myers, age 37, of Duluth, to 30 months in prison; and April Marie Hagadorn-Bergara, age 35, address unknown, and Kevin Mark Anderson, age 38, of Big Lake, to five years of probation.

On February 16, 2009, Judge Frank sentenced Michael Allen Trent, age 30, address unknown, to 70 months in prison. He also ordered Kirk Paul Johnson, age 57, of Lutsen, to serve 21 months in prison and pay a $2,000 fine. In addition, Steven Robert Duncan, age 53, of Mounds View, was ordered to serve 12 months and one day in prison.

These eight defendants, along with their 20 co-defendants, were indicted on August 20, 2008. All 28 have pleaded guilty.

Following today’s sentencings, the Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (“ATF”), Bernard J. Zapor said, ATF, along with our State and local law enforcement partners, will continue to surgically remove these drug traffickers and make the communities in the Northland safer following these successful prosecutions.

Seventeen other defendants in this case were sentenced earlier for their roles in the above-referenced drug ring. Their sentences ranged from time served and probation to 138 months in prison:

  • Felix Johnson Rivera, 27, St. Paul, was sentenced to 138 months on one count of possession
    with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
  • John Edmund Schostag, 38, Duluth, was sentenced to 120 months on one count of felon in
    possession of a firearm and one count of attempting to possess with intent to distribute
    methamphetamine.
  • Joey James Hagadorn, 41, Superior, Wisconsin, was sentenced to 96 months on one count of
    distribution of methamphetamine.
  • Justin Paul Linskie, 25, Duluth, was sentenced to 84 months on one count of distribution of
    methamphetamine.
  • Darwin Gerald Martin, Jr., 30, Princeton, was sentenced to 66 months on one count of
    distribution of methamphetamine.
  • John Eugene Highland, 27, Two Harbors, was sentenced to 60 months on one count of
    conspiracy.
  • Marques Anthony Jones, 29, Superior, Wisconsin, was sentenced to 60 months on one count
    of conspiracy.
  • Nichole Ann Kearney, 23, Duluth, was sentenced to 60 months on one count of conspiracy.
  • Shawn Clarke Spottswood, 30, Hugo, was sentenced to 48 months on one count of
    conspiracy.
  • Bobbi Sue Nesgoda, 25, Duluth, was sentenced to 40 months on one count of distribution.
  • Sandra Marie Archambeau, 37, Duluth, was sentenced to 35 months in prison on one count
    of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
  • Martin John Lindrud, 54, Forbes, was sentenced to 18 months on one count of conspiracy.
  • Beatrix Elena Arellanes, 35, Minneapolis, was sentenced to 15 months on one count of
    aiding and abetting in the distribution of methamphetamine.
  • Alana Lynn Brown, 24, Duluth, was sentenced to five years of probation on one count of
    aiding and abetting in the distribution of methamphetamine.
  • Karen Mae Tremain, 44, Duluth, was sentenced to five years of probation on one count of
    aiding and abetting in the distribution of methamphetamine.
  • Gail Lynn Lindrud, 54, Forbes, was sentenced to three years of probation on one count of
    conspiracy.
  • Robert Gene Chapman, 39, Duluth, was sentenced to time already served on one count of
    conspiracy.
  • Two co-defendants remain fugitives, while the sentencing date for the 28th defendant in this
    case has not yet been scheduled.

This case was the result of an investigation by the Duluth Police Department, the ATF, the
Lake Superior Drug and Gang Task Force, the Superior, Wisconsin, Police Department, the
Minnesota State Patrol, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, the Carlton County Sheriff’s
Office, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and the U.S. Marshals Service. It was
prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian S. Wilton.

In separate but related cases, three other individuals have been sentenced for their roles in
the same Duluth-area methamphetamine distribution ring. Johnny Lee Blevins, age 24, of St.
Paul, was sentenced to 60 months in prison and five years of supervised release on one count of
conspiracy to distribute in excess of 15 kilograms of methamphetamine. Blevins was indicted on
February 5, 2008, and sentenced on September 24, 2008. Edgar Manuel Sierra-Serrano, age 30,
of St. Paul, also indicted on February 5, 2008, was sentenced on October 10, 2008, to 151
months in prison on one count of conspiracy. And, Jimmy Jo Korf, age 29, of St. Paul, was
sentenced on September 28, 2009, to 140 months in prison on one count of distribution and
possession with intent to distribute in excess of 15 kilograms of methamphetamine. Korf was
indicted on April 23, 2008.
