New Bedford Defendant is Sentenced in Firearm Offense

Boston, Mass. — A New Bedford man was sentenced today in federal court on a firearm

PEDRO RENEE CRUZ, 30, of New Bedford, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Rya W. Zobel, to 180 months mandatory minimum period of incarceration, to be followed by three years of supervised release.

On July 29, 2010, CRUZ pled guilty to a one count Indictment charging him with being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition. At the plea hearing, the prosecutor told the Court that, had the case proceeded to trial, the evidence would have proven that on or about February 5, 2009, CRUZ sold a Ruger Model 9mm pistol, loaded with 11 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, to an undercover cooperating witness in exchange for money.
