ATF Announces Up to $5,000 Reward for Information on the Eagle Butte Head Start Arson
ST. PAUL — Investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) today announced ATF is posting a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the arson fire to the Eagle Butte Head Start facility, in Eagle Butte, S.D. located on the Cheyenne River Sioux Indian Reservation.
On Sept. 15, 2010, at approximately 5:31 a.m., a fire was reported at the Eagle Butte Head Start located on Main Street in Eagle Butte. The Eagle Butte Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene and suppressed the structure fire. ATF and the South Dakota Department of Public Safety-State Fire Marshal’s Office conducted a fire scene examination and determined that the fire was deliberately set. The loss value is estimated at approximately $600,000.
Investigators are seeking the public's help in solving this crime and are hopeful that the reward will provide additional leads in this investigation.
ATF Special Agent in Charge Bernard J. Zapor stated,
This senseless crime has negatively impacted the lives of the Cheyenne River Sioux Community, particularly the children who use the Head Start facility. ATF will bring its resources and expertise to the ongoing effort to solve this crime.
