New Leader for the ATF Columbus Field Division
Robert J. Browning to Lead Operations in Ohio and Indiana
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Robert J. Browning has been named the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Columbus Field Division. Browning is a veteran ATF agent with over 23 years of experience, most recently serving as Deputy Director of the Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center (TEDAC) in Quantico, Va. a multi-agency organization responsible for analyzing improvised explosive device (IED) evidence, primarily from Iraq and Afghanistan.
SAC Browning will lead ATF’s Columbus Field Division comprising Ohio and Indiana (with the exception of 8 southernmost Indiana counties) which serves the 3rd largest population base of ATF’s 25 field divisions. SAC Browning will direct the Columbus Field Division’s criminal enforcement operations with the aim of combating violent crime by investigating violations of federal firearms, explosives and arson laws. In addition, he will oversee industry operations in the regulation of the firearms and explosives industry.
I welcome the opportunity to lead the ATF Columbus Field Division in continuing the fight against violent crime. ATF is at the forefront in combating violent crime with unique jurisdiction over the tools of the trade — firearms, explosives and arson. ATF is committed to protecting our communities from the plague of gangs, firearms related violence, acts of arson, and explosives related violent crime, said Browning.
Browning is a native of Mobile, Ala. and a graduate of Loyola University in New Orleans, La. and holds a Graduate Certificate in Criminal Justice from the University of Virginia. During his 23 year career with ATF, he has served as Chief, Public Affairs Division, Washington, D.C.; Assistant Special Agent in Charge, New Orleans Field Division; Supervisory Special Agent, Special Operations Division, Washington, D.C.; Resident Agent in Charge, Youngstown, Ohio; Public Information Officer, Atlanta, Ga. and Special Agent, Little Rock, Ark.
