Bangor Man Convicted of Federal Firearms Charges

Bangor, Maine — United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced that on May 24, 2011 after a 2–day trial in U.S. District Court in Bangor, Maine, a jury convicted Domingos Nobrega, also known as Shawn Alan Nobrega, 34, of Bangor, of 1 count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Nobrega faces a sentence of up to 10 years imprisonment, up to a $250,000 fine, or both, and up to 3 years supervised release. Nobrega was detained pending imposition of sentence.

Testimony and evidence admitted at trial revealed that in 2003, Nobrega was convicted of Assault with a Deadly Weapon Upon a Government Officer (in North Carolina) and in 2004, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer (in Virginia), both felonies. As a convicted felon, Nobrega is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition.

Defendant was found in possession of a loaded handgun in the early morning hours of October 24, 2010 by the Bangor Police during the execution of a search warrant after a seven hour stand-off.

The investigation was conducted jointly by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Bangor Police Department.
