Illinois Man Sentenced as an Armed Career Offender

BOISE – Korie L. Clemens, 29, of West Peoria, Illinois, was sentenced this week to 188 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced. Clemens appeared on Monday before U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge at the federal courthouse in Pocatello. He pled guilty to the charge on May 3, 2011.

According to the plea agreement and evidence presented at sentencing, Clemens was arrested at the Flamingo Hotel in Rupert, Idaho, in possession of a vehicle stolen from Montana. A search of the vehicle found seven stolen firearms. An additional 16 stolen firearms were located in Clemens' hotel room. Under federal law, Clemens was determined to be an Armed Career Offender as he had previously been convicted of at least three felony crimes of violence. In 2000, Clemens was twice convicted of residential burglary in Illinois. In 2004, in Lewistown, Illinois, Clemens was convicted of aggravated battery with a weapon. In 2006 and 2007, also in Illinois, Clemens was twice convicted of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

The case was investigated by the Rupert Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). It was prosecuted as part of Idaho's Project Safe Neighborhoods Program, which seeks to reduce gun violence in Idaho.
