NEWARK, N.J. – A Somerset County man was sentenced today to 20 months in federal prison for possession and sale of approximately 150 stolen firearms, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.

Patrick Dolan, 32, of Manville, N.J., was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Dickinson R. Debevoise in Newark federal court. Dolan had previously pleaded guilty before Judge Debevoise to one count of an Indictment charging him with possession and sale of stolen firearms. According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:

On Oct. 5, 2007, Dolan stole a Bersa .40-cal. firearm from a shipment at the Federal Express facility in Eatontown, N.J., where he worked. On May 21, 2008, Dolan stole a shipment of approximately 75 Bersa firearms from the FedEx facility. On May 21, 2008, Dolan stole approximately 75 additional Bersa firearms from the same facility. Dolan and a co-conspirator then sold the firearms and exchanged them for drugs at various public housing complexes in
Newark, East Orange and Jersey City.

In addition to the prison term, Judge Debevoise sentenced Dolan to three years of supervised release and ordered him to pay $14,231.98 in restitution.

U.S. Attorney Fishman credited special agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Matthew W. Horace, with the investigation of the case. He also thanked the Newark, East Orange, Jersey City and Eatontown Police Departments for their important roles.

The government is represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney R. Joseph Gribko of the U.S. Attorney's Office Criminal Division in Trenton.
