Armed Drug Dealer Sentenced to More than 16 Years in Federal Prison

Jacksonville, FL — United States Attorney Robert E. O’Neill announces that U.S. District Judge Marcia Morales Howard, on Friday, sentenced Anthony Terry (35, Jacksonville) to sixteen years and six months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. Terry pled guilty on October 1, 2010. Judge Howard found that Terry was a career offender based upon his prior convictions for sale of cocaine and lewd battery.

According to court documents, from late 2008 through September 2009 Terry was responsible for the distribution of multiple kilograms of cocaine and hundreds of pounds of marijuana in Jacksonville. Terry and his co–defendant, Roland Martin, were arrested when the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant on September 2, 2009. Narcotics officers located cocaine and marijuana during their search, along with three firearms. The firearms seized included a Glock 9mm pistol and two assault rifles. Martin was sentenced on November 28, 2011 to eleven years in prison.

This case was investigated by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Gun Crime Unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Frank Talbot.

It is another case prosecuted as a part of the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhoods program – a nationwide, gun–violence reduction strategy led by ATF. United States Attorney Robert E. O’Neill, along with Virginia O’Brien, Special Agent in Charge, ATF, is coordinating the Project Safe Neighborhoods effort here in the Middle District of Florida in cooperation with federal, state, and local law enforcement officials.
