Rhinelander Man Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison For Felon in Possession

Madison, Wis. – John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Jay W. Lloyd, 27, Rhinelander, Wis., was sentenced today by Chief U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 15 years in prison, without the possibility of parole, for unlawfully possessing firearms as a convicted felon. Lloyd pleaded guilty to this charge on March 7, 2012.

On September 24, 2011, Lloyd and others stole numerous firearms and other items when they burglarized a home in Rhinelander. Lloyd pawned two of the stolen guns in Eagle River on September 28, 2011. The pawn shop owner correctly thought the firearms were stolen and he called the police. Lloyd fled from the police but was arrested several days later. The remaining firearms were recovered from various locations. Lloyd subsequently confessed to committing the burglary.

Lloyd received a 15-year sentence because he has three prior violent felony convictions, which classifies him as an armed career criminal under federal law. The charges against Lloyd are the result of an investigation by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of this case has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney Rita M. Rumbelow
