Washburn Charged with Distributing Oxycodone
Donald Keith Washburn from Cedar Rapids, has been charged with one count of distributing oxycodone. The charge is contained in an Indictment unsealed on May 23, 2012, in United States District Court in Cedar Rapids.
The Indictment alleges that, on or about April 26, 2012, Washburn distributed oxycodone, a Schedule II controlled substance. Washburn has been in federal custody since February 23, 2012, following his convictions at trial for wire fraud, money laundering, and making false statements to the United States Probation Office.Washburn is pending sentencing for those crimes.
If convicted on the drug charge, Washburn faces a possible maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment, a $1,000,000 fine, a $100 special assessment, and at least 3 years of supervised release following any imprisonment. These penalties could be ordered to be served consecutively to any penalty imposed in the wire fraud, money laundering and false statements case.
Washburn’s first appearance in federal court in Cedar Rapids for an arraignment on the drug charge is set for May 30, 2012, at 9:00 a.m.
As with any criminal case, a charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dan Chatham and was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force consisting of the DEA; the Department of Homeland Security; the Linn County Sheriff’s Office; the Cedar Rapids Police Department; the Marion Police Department; the Iowa City Police Department; the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the Sixth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services; and the Iowa National Guard.
