Man Pleads Guilty to Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm

NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA – IRVIN LEFERE, JR., 26, a resident of New Orleans, pled guilty before U. S. District Judge Helen G. Berrigan to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, announced U. S. Attorney Jim Letten.

The plea is the result of an investigatory stop by the New Orleans Police Department during which Stewart, a convicted felon, was found to be in possession of a firearm. According to court records, on or about April 19, 2012, IRVIN LEFERE, JR., having previously been convicted of Possession of Ecsacy in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court, did knowingly possess in and affecting commerce a firearm, to wit: a .40 caliber Springfield XD40 handgun.

The count carries a maximum term of imprisonment of ten (10) years, a fine of up to $250,000,000. and a maximum of three (3) years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment.

The investigation is being conducted by the ATF and the New Orleans Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U. S. Attorney Andre' Jones.
