Illegal Alien Sentenced For Lying While Purchasing Handguns

United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced that on November 2, 2012, Dahler Muhitdinov, a citizen of Tajikistan, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Joseph Bataillon to 12 months and 1 day in prison for lying about his citizenship while purchasing firearms. When a firearm is purchased from a licensed dealer, the purchaser has to fill out a form produced by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. One of the questions on the form asks the purchaser’s identity. Muhitdinov, 31, a citizen of Tajikistan, identified himself during several separate gun purchases as a citizen of the United States. After serving his sentence, Muhitdinov will be deported.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Department of Homeland Security.
