ATF Announces Command Change – St. Paul Field Division
Scott D. Sweetow to Lead ATF St. Paul Field Division
ST. PAUL, Minn – The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives ("ATF), St. Paul Field Division, announces the appointment of Scott D. Sweetow as the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the St. Paul Field Division beginning in January 2013. Sweetow will be responsible for "ATF operations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Sweetow replaces Bernard J. Zapor, who served as the SAC of the St. Paul Field Division from 2005 to 2012. Zapor was promoted in November 2012 to the position of Deputy Assistant Director-Central and will oversee eight "ATF Field Divisions as well as the "ATF Special Operations Division.
Sweetow began his career with "ATF in 1990 in Los Angeles where he spent several years assigned to an arson and explosives group. He served as a certified explosives specialist and a member of "ATF‘s National Response Team (NRT), which investigated such high-profile crimes as the Oklahoma City and the Centennial Olympic Park bombings. During his "ATF career, Sweetow has served as a Intelligence Officer in Los Angeles, a Program Manager and Chief of the Policy Development and Evaluation Branch, Washington, D.C.; Chief of the Arson, Explosives and International Training Division, Washington, D.C., a Supervisory Special Agent in the Phoenix Field Division, Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) of the Atlanta Field Division, and since September 2011, as the SAC of the Atlanta Field Division. Additionally, Sweetow has served as a law enforcement trainer in numerous countries across four continents.
Sweetow is a native of Tucson, Ariz. and has a bachelor‘s degree in Russian and Soviet area studies and a master‘s in strategic intelligence. He is a graduate of Harvard University‘s senior executives in national and international security program and the FBI‘s Law Enforcement Executive Development program. Sweetow is a recognized expert in fire and explosives matters, and has often been featured in local and national media on those topics by virtue of his expertise.
