New Sharon Man Sentenced for Possessing 19 Stolen Firearms
Bangor, Maine: United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced that Roger Briscoe, 34, of New Sharon, Maine, was sentenced today in United States District Court, in Bangor, by Chief Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr., to 27 months of imprisonment to be followed by three years of supervised release for possessing 19 stolen firearms. Briscoe pled guilty to the charge on October 10, 2012.
Court records reveal that on January 26, 2012, Briscoe broke into a Jay, Maine residence, stole 19 firearms, including six semi-automatic rifles, five semi-automatic pistols and numerous shotguns, and took the firearms to his residence located several miles away. Most of the firearms were recovered within 24 hours from Briscoe's residence during the execution of a state search warrant.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF
) and the Jay Police Department (JPD
). U.S. Attorney Delahanty praised the cooperative effort of the ATF agents and JPD officers for the swift recovery of the guns which prevented them from being used in other criminal activity.
