ATF Continues to Offer Up to A $5,000 Reward For Information on Attempted Canton, S.D. Bombing
ST. PAUL (Minn.)— Special Agent in Charge Scott D. Sweetow of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), St. Paul Field Division today reminded the public that a reward of up to $5,000 has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the attempted bombing of a residence in Canton. The reward was initially announced on July 23, 2012.
On July 8, 2012, the Canton Police Department responded to a residence at 530 West 3rd Street, Lot #10, Canton, for a report of an explosive device found outside the residence. (ATF) and the Sioux Falls Police Department Bomb Squad conducted an on scene examination and determined that an incendiary improvised explosives device (IED) recovered at the rear of the residence failed to function as designed, but was a live device. The IED was subsequently rendered safe.
SAC Sweetow stated,
ATF and the Canton Police Department are committed to solving this dangerous incident and we need additional leads to perfect a criminal case against the person/s responsible for this senseless act.
Investigators are seeking the public’s help in solving this crime and are hopeful that the reward will provide additional leads in the investigation.
