ATF and Firearms Industry Offer Reward in Cumming Firearms Theft

CUMMING, Ga. – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Atlanta Field Division and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) – the trade association for the firearms industry -- have announced a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the theft of firearms from Forsyth County Pawn, a Federal Firearms Licensee located in Cumming, Ga. ATF is offering a reward in the amount of $5,000, which will be matched by the NSSF for a total reward of $10,000.

This reward is part of a larger national cooperative initiative between the NSSF and ATF in which NSSF matches ATF rewards in cases involving the theft of firearms from federally licensed firearms retailers. ATF works closely with members of the firearms industry to curb the criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms.

ATF and the Cumming Police Department are investigating the theft of firearms during the burglary. The theft occurred in the early morning hours on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 211 Atlanta Road. Additional information from the public may assist in solving this case. These firearms pose a potential danger and investigators are seeking information that would aid in the resolution of this investigation.

"ATF takes this crime very seriously," said Special Agent in Charge Christopher Shaefer. "There are 27 firearms on the street, with the strong potential of being sold to or used by other criminals to commit violent crimes. ATF remains on the frontline of preventing violent crimes and firearms trafficking is a serious offense which results in significant federal prison time for the person or persons responsible."

Anyone with information about this crime should contact the ATF Gun Hotline at 1-800-ATF-GUNS (283-4867) or the Cumming Police Department at 770-781-2000. Callers may remain anonymous.

This is a joint investigation with the ATF and the Detroit Fire Department Arson Unit.

ATF is the lead federal law enforcement agency with jurisdiction in violent crimes involving firearms and regulation of the firearms industry. More information on ATF can be found at www.atf.gov or follow ATF on Twitter!.
