Explosion at Chemring Countermeasures (Kilgore Flares) Under Investigation
Toone, Tenn. — The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Nashville Field Division, responded to an incident resulting in an injury at Chemring Countermeasures (Kilgore Flares). This collaborative investigative effort included the Tennessee State Fire Marshalls Office/Bomb and Arson Unit, Hardeman County Sheriff’s Office, Hardeman County Emergency Management Agency, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, Toone Fire Department, Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
On Feb. 22, at approximately 10:51 a.m., an incident occurred at Chemring Countermeasures (Kilgore Flares). The Hardeman County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, located at 155 Kilgore Drive, Toone, Tenn., where one employee was injured as a result of the incident. ATF and other responding agencies were denied access to the Chemring building, as well as the scene of the incident. ATF obtained a Federal search warrant to ensure complete access to the scene. The ATF National Response Team was activated and is on site to begin processing the scene.
Over the past 10 years, there have been several explosive incidents with fatalities at this location. Chemring Countermeasures (Kilgore Flares) is a federal firearms and explosives licensee.
