South Elgin Woman Charged With Solicitation for Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking

South Elgin, IL. – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) along with the Elgin Police Department, Cook County Sheriff’s Police, Chicago Police Department, and the DuPage County Metropolitan Enforcement Group announce the following:

On February 25, 2014, Michelle Leigh Bertoncini, age 39, of South Elgin, IL. was charged with: 2 Counts, Solicitation for Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking with a Firearm, Class 1 Felony. 2 Counts, Solicitation for Unlawful Vehicular Invasion, Class 2 Felony.

On February 24, 2014, Bertoncini, while soliciting the commission of vehicular hijacking while armed with a firearm, took a motor vehicle with the use of force or by threatening the imminent use of force. Bertoncini solicited the vehicular invasion by force and entered the motor vehicle while it was occupied with the intent to commit an aggravated battery.

Bertoncini appeared Tuesday February 25, 2014 in Kane County Bond Court. Bail was set at $350,000. She remains in custody at the Kane County Jail. Bertoncini’s next court date is March 7, 2014 in front of Kane County Circuit Judge James C. Hallock at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles Township.

If convicted, Michelle Leigh Bertoncini faces a sentence of probation or between 4 and 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
