ATF K-9 Abby is a Search Enhanced Evidence K-9 (S.E.E.K) trained Explosives Detection Canine (EDC), and is part of the first S.E.E.K. class trained and certified by ATF to operated off-leash. K-9 Abby came to ATF from a local vendor and she has the ability to search specific targets (i.e., vehicles, luggage) at up to 150 meters. Once at the target, she can be directed using hand and whistle signals to search the target for explosives and/or firearms. If she detects explosives and/or firearms she will alert her handler by sitting. Sending her down range provides the handler with an extra level of safety by allowing the handler to be at distance away from the target being searched.

K-9 Abby will be used primarily along the Southwest Border area to assist ATF and state and local partners with their investigations. However, she can travel anywhere that there is an ATF mission, should she be needed. Abby is a true working dog. She is very motivated to work for her handler and she loves what she does.

Recent Find:

Explosive Detection Canine Abby and Special Agent Canine Handler Ben Scoll routinely help out local law enforcement with searches for evidence. Recently Abby and SACH Scoll worked with local PD and while searching the vehicle, Abby displayed a significant change of behavior indicating the presence of explosive material. SACH Scoll subsequently located several items that may be linked to a homicide.
