K-9 Bo is an Explosives Detection Canine (EDC), and came to ATF from a local vendor. K-9 Bo is a Search Enhanced Evidence K-9 (S.E.E.K.), and is part of the first S.E.E.K. class trained and certified by ATF to operated off-leash. As an EDC, Bo has been trained to detect the latest homemade, military and commercial explosive threat. Bo lives in the Brownsville, Texas, area, but travels nationwide on assignments.

K-9 Bo has the ability to be sent off-leash to specific targets, such as vehicles or luggage, up to 150 meters. Once at the target, he can be directed using hand and whistle signals to search for explosives and/or firearms. If K-9 Bo detects explosives and/or firearms he will alert his handler by sitting. Sending him down range provides the handler with an extra level of safety by being a distance away from the target being searched.
