K-9 Kira is one of four new graduates from ATF’s first class of Search Enhanced Evidence K-9s (S.E.E.K.). She is an Explosives Detection Canine (EDC), who has the unique capacity to operate off-leash, hundreds of yards from her handler and appears to have fun doing it.

Kira was bred to be a champion duck hunter but experienced a career change when ATF took notice of her superior drive and innate knack for detection. K-9 Kira came to ATF from a local vendor, and upon completing the intensive six-month ATF canine academy she was assigned to a field office in Tucson, Ariz. For Kira, finding explosive odor is much like finding ducks.
