Circumstances of Death

Prohibition Agent Jesse Johnson participated with other agents in a series of still raids in Saline County, AR. They had arrested a number of suspects and while processing the prisoners, Agent Johnson was shot from ambush. He was rushed to St. Vincent's Hospital in Little Rock, but died the following day. Other agents quickly arrested Orin Ray, and he confessed to the murder of Agent Johnson.

Background

Agent Johnson joined the Prohibition Unit on September 12, 1921, with an annual salary of $1,800. He had been on the job approximately two months at the time of his death.

Agent Johnson was born in Berryville, AR. He was survived by his wife.
