Circumstances of Death

Prohibition Agent John Thomas Foley was accidentally shot while participating in a raid at the Elmo Hotel, St. Paul, MN.  While assisting in searching various rooms, Agent Foley's revolver slipped from his shoulder holster and discharged striking him in the chest.  Other agents immediately rushed to his aid, but he died instantly.

Background

Agent Foley joined the Prohibition Unit on December 30, 1920, with an annual salary of $1,500.  He was on the job only 10 months prior to his death.  Previously, he proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War I.

Agent Foley was born in Minneapolis, MN.  He was survived by his wife and one child.
