Circumstances of Death

Prohibition Agent Posie Lester Flinchum along with Agents Dale, Street and Andrews were chasing a rum-running car on the highways outside Goldsboro, NC.  As the chase unfolded, the rum-runners began shooting at the Government vehicle.  Several agents were injured during the exchange of gunfire, but Flinchum's was the most serious.  Agent Flinchum was taken to Goldsboro Hospital, and died shortly thereafter from the gunshot wounds.

Background

Agent Flinchum joined the Prohibition Unit on October 20, 1924, with an annual salary of $1,860.  Previously, he was a deputy sheriff in Stokes County, NC.
