Circumstances of Death

Prohibition Agent Stanton Weiss accompanied by other agents and local officers participated in a raid at the Charles Chandler farm, near Oklahoma City.  Mr. Chandler was suspected of operating an illicit still on his property.  As the officers approached the farm house they were ambushed by a group of bootleggers.  In the ensuing gunfight, Agent Weiss, Deputy Sheriff Adrean and suspect Charles Chandler were all killed.  Another officer and one bootlegger were wounded.  The wounded suspect was placed in the local jail, but soon thereafter, a mob of angry citizens broke into the jail, took the prisoner and hung him from a tree.
