Circumstances of Death

Prohibition Agents William Paul Spigener and other agents were traveling in a Government vehicle to raid an illicit distillery in Toombs County, GA.  As they traveled along Statesboro Road they were struck by another car, causing their windshield to shatter.  The flying glass hit Agent Spigener directly in the face, creating a serious wound from his eye to his neck.  Two months later, Agent Spigener entered the hospital for additional surgery/treatment, but died one hour after his surgery.

Agent Spigener joined the Prohibition Unit on June 1, 1922, and was assigned to the Savannah, GA field office.

Personal

Agent Spigener was born in South Carolina.  He was survived by his wife and their children.
