Grand Jury Returns Indictments
MADISON, WIS. -- A federal grand jury in the Western District of Wisconsin, sitting in Madison, has returned the following indictments today. You are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
SUPERIOR RESIDENT CHARGED WITH GUN CRIME
Ryan Pouliot, 23, Superior, Wis., is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The indictment alleges that he possessed a .410 gauge shotgun and ammunition on September 23, 2014.
If convicted, Pouliot faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison. The charge against him is the result of an investigation by the Superior Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of this case will be handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rita M. Rumbelow.
ASHLAND MAN CHARGED WITH GUN CRIMES
Justin Edwards, 37, Ashland, Wis., is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and with being an unlawful drug user in possession of a firearm. The indictment alleges that on September 24, 2014, Edwards was an unlawful user of methamphetamine and possessed a loaded Ruger .357 revolver.
Edwards was previously charged with being a felon in possession of a short-barreled shotgun in an indictment returned by the grand jury in May 2013. That case is still pending in federal court.
If convicted, Edwards faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison on each count. The charges against him are the result of an investigation by the Ashland Police Department. The prosecution of this case will be handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin F. Burke.
MEXICAN CITIZEN CHARGED WITH ILLEGAL REENTRY INTO U.S.
Jose Manuel Hernandez-Gonzalez, 31, a citizen of Mexico found in Augusta, Wis., is charged with illegally reentering the United States after previously being deported. The indictment alleges that he was found in the United States on October 2, 2014.
If convicted, Hernandez-Gonzalez faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. The charge against him is the result of an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The prosecution of this case will be handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Grant C. Johnson.
