FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Contact: Special Agent Don York (502) 582-5211 Date: August 3, 1998 FY98-12 ATF INVESTIGATES ATTEMPTED BOMBING OF TIPPECANOE COUNTY COURTHOUSE LAFAYETTE, IN: On August 2, 1998, agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) responded to Tippecanoe County, Indiana, in response to the attempted bombing of the County Courthouse by use of a car bomb. ATF has sent additional specialists to assist in the investigation. The evidence recovered from the crime scene has been transported to the ATF National Laboratory in Rockville, Maryland, for analysis. ATF, in conjunction with the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, is pursuing investigative leads. ATF would like to question a man described as white, balding, in his mid 40s, and about 6 feet tall, who was seen near the courthouse about the time of the incident.
