•Alcohol and Tobacco Investigations: 91

•Firearms Investigations: 35,302

•ATF conducted 30,507 investigations in Fiscal Year (FY) 2017.  Of those investigations, 92% involved firearm-related crimes.

Defendants recommended for prosecution in Fiscal Year 2017

•ATF recommended 15,106 defendants for prosecution in FY 2017.

•Of those recommended for prosecution, 10,878 were indicted.

•Of those indicted, 8,637 defendants were convicted and resulted in 43 life sentences and 14 death sentences.

Cases recommended for prosecution in Fiscal Year 2017

•ATF recommended 9,591 cases for prosecution.

•Of those recommended 7,137 were prosecuted.

•Of those cases that were prosecuted, 6,068 resulted in conviction.
