ATF Responds to Possible Explosive Device at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

LAS VEGAS – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Las Vegas Fire and Rescue responded to a possible explosive device found on Sept. 15 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 7500 Tule Springs Road, Las Vegas, Nev. Members of the church had called 911 to report damage to the building, which included broken glass and evidence of an incendiary device. The device did not ignite and the building sustained no fire damage.
"Ensuring the public’s safety is our primary concern," said Jill Snyder, Special Agent in Charge of ATF’s San Francisco Field Division. "We are working closely with our local law enforcement and emergency service partners on this investigation and ask that anyone with information about this incident please report it.”

ATF is responsible for regulating the explosives industry, as well as investigating fires and the majority of incidents involving explosives across the country. In fiscal year 2015, ATF investigated 978 explosives incidents.
