ATF, WVC Fire Department Offer $10,000 for Information on Nemko Structure Fire
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and West Valley City Fire Department are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for a fire that began Oct. 24 at Nemko, 1940 W. Alexander St., West Valley City, Utah, 84119.
Anyone with information should call 1-888-ATF-FIRE (1-888-283-3473).
Nearby video surveillance footage and witness statements collected by the ATF National Response Team and the WVC Fire Department over the past few days revealed a burning object that floated onto the Nemko roof at about 9:37 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24. The object appeared to descend slowly.
The object smoldered on the roof for nearly five hours before producing a large fire that was called in around 2:30 a.m., Oct. 25.
Correction: Building damage is now estimated at about $3 million, not $11 million as previously reported.
“This is an unusual situation. We hope someone out there knows what happened and comes forward with relevant information as to what this object might be, as well as who might be involved,” said ATF Special Agent in Charge Ken Croke.
Businesses are also asked to review their video systems for the night of Oct. 24 around 9:30 p.m. for the object.
