Beloit Man Sentenced to 7 Years on Drug & Gun Charges
MADISON, WIS. -- Scott C. Blader, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Jeremy M. Howard, 31, Beloit, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to seven years in federal prison for possessing marijuana with intent to distribute, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and violating the terms of his supervised release. Howard pleaded guilty to these charges on October 25, 2017.
The possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime carried a five-year mandatory minimum sentence.
On July 31, 2017, Beloit police officers found marijuana, cocaine, and a loaded firearm in Howard’s car. Howard’s DNA was found on the firearm. At the time of this offense, Howard was on federal supervised release for possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute. Judge Conley stated that his sentence reflected the serious nature of the offense and the failure of Howard to avail himself of opportunities to better his life while on supervised release.
The charges against Howard were the result of an investigation conducted by the Beloit Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney David J. Reinhard.
