Chippewa Falls Man Sentenced for Gun Crime

MADISON, WIS. -- John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Corey Cichy, 23, Chippewa Falls, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge William Conley to 18 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Cichy pleaded guilty to this charge on December 11, 2013.

Cichy was arrested after he attempted to sell a rifle and ammunition to an undercover police officer at a shooting range in Cadott, Wis.

At sentencing, Judge Conley noted that Cichy also made poor decisions in the past, including firing a gun toward the home where his ex-girlfriend and child were living. This resulted in a felony conviction for recklessly endangering the safety of others.

The charge against Cichy was the result of an investigation conducted by Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul W. Connell.
