Madison Man Sentenced to Four Years for Distributing Ecstasy Drug

MADISON, WIS. -- Jeffrey M. Anderson, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Jonathan Britton, 29, Madison, Wis. was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to four years in federal prison for distributing the drug known as Ecstasy or Molly.

Britton was charged for his involvement in a September 14, 2016 sale of a quarter-ounce of the substance in an undercover operation. He pleaded guilty on August 31.

Judge Peterson commented on Britton’s long criminal history and past violent offenses, and observed that a sentence of four years was necessary to protect the public and adequately offer Britton necessary rehabilitative programs to prevent his return to illegal conduct when released.

Co-defendant JonPaul Dotson was sentenced on October 13 to time served and three years of supervised release. Co-defendants Christopher Curry and Jessie Pennington will be sentenced on November 1, 2017 and January 25, 2018, respectively.

The charge against Jonathan Britton was the result of an investigation conducted by the Dane County Narcotics Task Force and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert A. Anderson.
