Suspects Arrested, Charged for Two Eastern N.C. Guns Shop Burglaries

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announces two suspects have been arrested and formally charged in federal court in connection with the burglary of Tamz Guns & Ammo in Ahoskie, N.C., and Mackey’s Landing Firearms in Jamesville, N.C. Both are federal firearm licensees (FFL).

Pursuant to criminal investigations, Grant Harrell and Lydell Newsome, both of Ahoskie, N.C., were arrested and formally charged on May 8, 2017. Additional suspects are at large and arrests are anticipated.

On April 15, 2017, at approximately 3:50 a.m., multiple individuals forcibly entered Tamz Guns & Ammo, located at 343 N.C., Highway 42, Ahoskie, N.C. The suspects stole multiple firearms before fleeing the scene.

On April 25, 2017, multiple individuals forcibly entered Mackey’s Landing Firearms located at 30757 U.S. Hwy 64, Jamesville, N.C. The suspects stole multiple firearms before fleeing the scene.

Anyone found in possession of a stolen firearm may face state or federal prosecution, and is punishable by up to 10 years in federal prison.

These crimes are being investigated by ATF, Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, Martin County Sheriff’s Office, Greenville Police Department and the Elizabeth City Police Department.
