ATF Increases Reward By $25,000 In Baby Garcia’s Murder Case
LOS ANGELES — Special Agent in Charge John A. Torres of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), today announced that ATF would provide an additional $25,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of Ricardo Hernandez, the alleged suspect, in the murder of 4-month old Andrew Garcia.
Garcia was struck and killed by gunfire on Sept. 27, 2009, at approximately 1 a.m. The infant was with his mother, father and family friends in the 14300 block of Kittridge Street in Van Nuys. A family friend was seated in the passenger seat of a vehicle feeding the child. At that time, another family friend was standing outside the vehicle and became involved in a verbal confrontation with two suspects. One of the suspects fired at the group and struck the baby and two adults.
“ATF will not hesitate to use any and all resources available to bring about the arrest of Ricardo Hernandez,” said Torres. “We stand willing to dedicate the manpower, money and technology necessary to help locate this suspect and bring a small piece of satisfaction to the victim's family that has lost so much.”
Los Angeles Police Department homicide detectives have identified 23-year-old Ricardo Hernandez as a suspect in the homicide and obtained a felony arrest warrant charging him with the murder of Garcia. Hernandez is described as being 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing approximately 185 pounds.
“We are determined to catch this alleged killer,” said LA City Councilman Tony Cardenas. “We welcome and appreciate ATF and all agencies that have joined together to find Hernandez and help bring peace back to this community.”
LAPD Detectives and federal agents have been working around the clock to solve this murder and locate Hernandez. The Los Angeles City Council has already offered a $50,000 in this case bringing the total amount offered to $75,000.
Anyone with information about the murder of 4-month-old Garcia or thewhereabouts of Ricardo Hernandez is urged to call LAPD Van Nuys Division Homicide Detectives Nuttal or Martinez at (818) 374-0040.
