Eau Claire Man Sentenced to Prison for Stealing Firearms From Durand Business

Madison, Wis. — John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Alan Xiong, 24, of Eau Claire, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge William Conley to 84 months in prison without parole for stealing firearms from Ryan’s Gun Shop in Durand, Wis. This term or imprisonment will be followed by three years of supervised release. Xiong pleaded guilty to this charge on July 20, 2010.

On June 24, 2007, the defendant and other members of the street gang, Menace of Destruction, broke into Ryan’s Gun Shop and stole 34 firearms. Of these guns, only five have been recovered. Judge Conley said he was concerned about the great likelihood that the remaining guns would be used in gang-related activities and crime.

The charges against Xiong were the result of an investigation conducted by the Durand Police Department, Pepin County Sheriff’s Department, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman.
