Porcupine Man Sentenced for Possessing a Firearm Illegally

Gilbert Blue Bird

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Porcupine man charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person was sentenced on May 23, 2011, by US District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Gilbert Blue Bird, age 42, was sentenced to eight months of imprisonment, three years of supervised release, and a $100 victim assessment.

Blue Bird was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 21, 2010. In April 2010 near Porcupine, tribal law enforcement responded to a residence regarding a disturbance and found Blue Bird, a convicted felon, to illegally be in possession of a rifle. Blue Bird pled guilty to the offense on March 2, 2011. This case was investigated by ATF, the BIA, and OST–DPS. Assistant US Attorney Sarah B. Collins prosecuted the case.

Blue Bird was immediately turned over to the custody of the US Marshal.
