TAMPA – United States Attorney Robert E. O’Neill announces that Joshua Michael Wilkes (29, Orlando) pleaded guilty today to the November 17, 2010, armed robbery of a Tampa CVS Pharmacy and a subsequent armed carjacking. For the use of a firearm to commit the offenses, Wilkes faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 32 years, up to life in federal prison. He faces an additional sentence of up to 15 years in federal prison for the actual robbery and the carjacking.

According to court documents, on November 17, 2010, Wilkes and an accomplice entered a CVS Pharmacy in Tampa to commit an armed robbery. Upon entering the store, they ordered customers and employees to the floor. Wilkes was brandishing a firearm. He hit the pharmacy manager in the head with the firearm during the robbery. After committing the robbery, Wilkes and his accomplice fled the area in a truck.

Tampa Police Department (TPD) Officers pursued the truck on Interstate 75. During the pursuit, Wilkes and his accomplice were involved in a crash and carjacked a female at gunpoint and fled the area using that vehicle. Wilkes was apprehended the following day by Orlando Police. His accomplice was recently apprehended and awaits trial.
