Madison, Wis. — John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Ricardo Cantu, 50, Arkdale, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 12 months and one day for possession of a firearm by a felon. Cantu pleaded guilty to this charge on February 28, 2012.

On August 11, 2011, during a consent search of the defendant’s home and vehicles, local law enforcement discovered a shotgun without a barrel and ammunition. The ammunition ranged from .410 and .270 caliber to 12 gauge ammunition. Officers also discovered .22 caliber ammunition. The shotgun, along with some ammunition, was discovered in Cantu’s bedroom, while other ammunition was discovered in a pick–up truck at his residence.

The charge against Cantu were the result of an investigation conducted by the Sauk and Adams County Sheriffs’ Departments and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Munish Sharda.
