Federal Grand Jury Returns Indictment

Madison, Wis. – A federal grand jury in the Western District of Wisconsin, sitting in Madison, returned the following indictment today. You are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Sun Prairie Man Cahrged with Drug & Gun Crimes; also Charged with Violating Conditions of Release

Jeff Teppo, 28, Sun Prairie, Wis., is charged in a superseding indictment with four counts of distributing cocaine, one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and one count of violating release conditions imposed by the court.

Teppo was charged with the drug and gun crimes in an indictment returned by the grand jury on October 5, 2011. The superseding indictment alleges that he violated conditions of release imposed by the court following a detention hearing on November 4,
2011. The superseding indictment alleges that in violation of the conditions imposed, Teppo left the Western District of Wisconsin and traveled to Mexico.

Teppo was arrested in La Piedad, Mexico, on October 5, 2012. He was deported to Houston the next day, and made an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Houston on October 9. He was detained and ordered removed to Madison.

If convicted, Teppo faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison on each distribution count, a maximum of 10 years on the felon in possession count, and a maximum of life in prison on the criminal contempt charge. The charges against him are the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration; Dane County Narcotics & Gang Task Force; Sun Prairie Police Department; Bureau of ATF; and U.S. Marshals Service. The prosecution of this case has been assigned to Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel J. Graber.
